The Women’s Network ‘third Thursday’ program was back in our regular meeting place in the Bartlesville Public Library with an enthusiastic crowd.
Sherry Stinson, owner of Tyler Dog Creative and Tyler Dog Photography, regaled us with stories and photographs she took during filming of ‘Killers of the Flower Moon’ in Pawhuska. She made daily visits to the set throughout the grueling 101 days of record-setting heat in the summer of 2021. The film, not yet released, is directed by Martin Scorsese and stars Robert De Niro and Leonardo DiCaprio. The behind-the-scenes photos Sherry took of the set as well as other characters in the film provided the real show for us.
The film is based on the true story of the brutal murders of members of the Osage Tribe in the early 20th Century, crimes which took place near Pawhuska in Fairfax and Ralston, Oklahoma. The ensuing investigation catapulted the career of J. Edgar Hoover and helped establish the reputation of the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
Throughout the filming Sherry posted photos on her Tyler Dog Creative Website and Tyler Dog Photography Facebook page. Although she was not an official photographer for the film, publicists for the film followed her posts and let her know if there was anything the producers didn’t want shared. She was obviously appreciated by cast members and her photos, many of which are available on her website, have won numerous awards. We learned a lot about sets, lighting, and authenticity of costumes. Two “extras” for the film added to the lively discussion as we enjoyed drinks and treats brought by Jerry Nicholson.
